8 Day Burundi Safari
This 8 day safari offers the best of Burundi. Your journey will include a memorable cultural tour of Bujumbura, visits to Rusizi National Park, Lake Tanganyika, and many other famous landmarks. We hope to see you there!
DAY 1: BUJUMBURA
Upon your arrival, your guide will meet and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of your day will be spent relaxing as you prepare for your journey. Your dinner and overnight will be at the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika on the beautiful shores of the lake.
DAY 2: BUJUMBURA TOUR
We will spend the day exploring the capital city of Burundi. Here you will learn about its history, see unique locations, and try local foods. Once finished, we will return to the hotel for your dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: RUSIZI NATIONAL PARK & IJENDA
Today we will drive you to Rusizi National Park, a huge wetlands ecosystem home to a higher number of hippos, sitatunga, birds, and other animal species. Afterward, we will head to the tea plantations of Ijenda. At the end of the day we will head back to the hotel for your dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: RUMONGE & RESHA
We will be departing Bujumbura and heading to Resha, stopping first at La Pierre de Stanley et Livingstone, the site where the famous Dr. David Livingston reportedly first met explorer Henry Morgan Stanley. Later in the day, we will explore Rumonge before heading back to Lake Tanganyika. Your dinner and overnight will be at Tanganyika Blue Bay Resort.
DAY 5: LAKE TANGANYIKA & RUTANA
Today will be spend exploring scenic Lake Tanganyika by boat. We will also pay a visit to the southernmost source of the Nile near Rutana. Once finished, we will head back to the lodge for your dinner and overnight.
DAY 6: NYAKUZA & KALERA
We will be visiting the Gorge of the Germans at Nyakuza before heading to the Chutes de la Kalera, an impressive set of waterfalls, locally renowned for having healing powers. Afterwards, we will drive to the town of Gitega for your dinner and overnight at the Tamotel.
DAY 7: GITEGA & KIRUNDO
In the morning, we will visit the National Museum. After lunch, we will witness a performance by the world famous Burundian drummers on the royal hill of Gishora - an extraordinary sight! We will then head to Kirundo. Your dinner and overnight will be at the Rama Hotel.
DAY 8: KIRUNDO & BUJUMBURA
On your final day, we will take a sunrise trip by dugout canoe on the Lacs des Oiseaux in Lake Rwhinda National Reserve. After a picnic lunch we will drive back to Bujumbura for your last overnight or return flight.

This safari offers wildlife encounters, gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, searching for the endangered golden monkeys, and plenty of cultural tours. Your journey will begin in Bujumbura, and will end in Kigali. We look forward to hosting you!

DAY 3: DRIVE TO KIBIRA NATIONAL PARK
Today we will head to Kibira National Park in the north west of the country near the Congo basin. You will be taken on a guided walk to look for chimpanzees, white and black colobus monkeys, red colobus, buffaloes, hare, and a variety of bird species. Once finished, we will return to the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika for your dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: VISIT RUVUBU NATIONAL PARK
On your last day in Burundi, we will visit Ruvubu National Park. The country's largest wilderness ecosystem, Ruvubu is home to hippopotamus, buffalo, crocodiles, leopard, monkeys, antelope, and lions. Bird lovers will have a marvelous time with more than 425 species in the park. Once done, we will drive to Rwanda for your dinner and overnight at the Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
DAY 5: CHIMPANZEE TRACKING & CANOPY WALK
We will head to the park headquarters for your debriefing about the primates, their habitats, and some brief rules. You will then be brought into the forest to track the various species including the chimpanzees. Once finished, you will return to the lodge for lunch. Afterward, there will be an evening canopy walk, followed by dinner and your overnight at the lodge.
DAY 6: TRANSFER TO VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
Your guide will transport Volcanoes National Park. Your dinner and overnight will either be at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or the Muhabura Guest House.
DAY 7: GORILLA TREK & CULTURAL WALK
There will be an early morning wake up. Afterward, you will be taken to the starting point of your trek. There will be a debriefing by the game rangers who will explain all of the rules before your trek begins. From there, you will be guided into the rainforest for your gorilla encounter. Please note that you should be in good physical condition, as the terrain in Volcanoes requires a lot of vertical hiking. When your trek is over, you will be taken to a scenic spot to enjoy your lunch. In the later afternoon, you will go for a cultural walk to Iby’iwacu where you will learn more about the Banyarwanda culture. Later on, you will visit the local Batwa community, followed by your dinner and overnight.
DAY 8: GOLDEN MONKEY TRACKING AND TRANSFER BACK TO KIGALI
In the early morning, we will take a golden monkey expedition. Once finished, you will be transfered back to Kigali, with a stop at the Gisozi genocide memorial. Depending on the time, there may be an opportunity for some shopping in Kigali before you're taken to the airport for your flight home.
